The Hytale development team has officially released the massive Update 2 package as of January 24, 2026, bringing foundational changes to both the technical infrastructure and core gameplay mechanics. This update introduces a wide range of features, from deep cosmetic customization and a complete mining progression overhaul to refined farming dynamics and essential server management tools.

Here is the detailed breakdown of everything new in Hytale Update 2.

Cosmetics & Character Customization

Focusing on player expression, the team has expanded the avatar customization suite. A standout feature, particularly for the Roleplay (RP) and PvP communities, is the new Armor Visibility toggle.

  • Armor Hiding Options: Players can now toggle the visibility of specific equipment slots, such as helmets or chest plates, directly from the character panel. Server hosts retain control to enforce or disable this feature to maintain server balance or immersion.
  • New Accessories: The avatar creator now includes the “Bandit Mask,” various blindfolds, and new “Vampire” and “Orc” mouth types.
  • Visual Overhauls: Hairstyles like “Single Side Pigtail,” “Fighter Buns,” and “Smart Elven” have received visual updates. Additionally, cape animations while running have been smoothed out for better fluidity.

Gameplay & Balance Changes

The core of this update lies in the rebalancing of the game’s progression system. Strategic depth has been significantly increased, particularly in mining and combat mechanics.

Mining and The “Tier” System

Pickaxe tiers are now far more critical to gameplay progression.

  • Adamantite Requirement: Mining Adamantite ore now strictly requires at least a Thorium or Cobalt pickaxe.
  • Damage Normalization: Lower-tier pickaxes now deal significantly less damage to high-tier ore blocks. Upgrading to a quality pickaxe drastically reduces the time required to break blocks.

New Abilities & Creatures

  • Necromancy: A new item has been added that allows players to raise skeletal minions from bone piles. This item has a chance to drop from the massive Praetorian Skeleton.
  • NPC Updates: Animals such as Bison, Boar, Cow, and Horse now drop “Medium Hide” instead of “Light Hide.”
  • Magma Toad: The tongue attack damage has been reduced, but the creature has gained a new “Headbutt” ability to keep players on their toes.

Farming & World Generation (WorldGen)

Farming mechanics have been refined to help players manage their crops more effectively. Safeguards have been introduced to prevent accidental breakage of “Eternal” crops.

  • Hoe Balancing: Crafting costs and unlock tiers for Hoes have been adjusted. Copper Hoes are now Tier 2, Iron Hoes are Tier 4, and Thorium Hoes have been added at Tier 6.
  • Tilled Soil: The decay time for tilled soil has been extended (lasting 1.2 - 1.5 in-game days).
  • Renewable Resources: Petals are now craftable under the textiles category, making them a fully renewable resource.

WorldGen V2 & Ore Distribution

Documentation for WorldGen V2 has been made available for modders. Furthermore, ore distribution across all zones has been refactored.

Important Note: To experience the new ore distribution (especially the increased density in the Devastated Lands underground), you must explore new, previously unloaded chunks in your existing worlds.

Interface (UI) & User Experience

Quality-of-life improvements have been implemented to streamline in-game management:

  • FPS Counter: A built-in FPS overlay has been added to the settings menu (General > User Interface).
  • Inventory Shortcuts: Quick actions (Put All, Sort, etc.) are now bound to Q, E, R, and T keys for faster inventory management.
  • Accessibility: An “Ophidiophobia” mode has been added for players with a fear of snakes, transforming snake models into harmless “Hatworms.”

Server Management & Technical Details

For Hytale server owners, the new Auto-Update System is a game-changer.

  • UpdateModule: A new core plugin integrated into the boot process allows servers to check for updates, notify players, and apply patches in stages.
  • Configuration: The UpdateConfig file allows admins to set update intervals, backup options, and auto-apply modes.
  • New Commands: Admins can now manage updates directly from within the game using the /update command.

The update also fixes shadow rendering glitches, smoothes out weather transitions, and resolves issues with player markers on the map.

Stay tuned for more updates from the world of Hytale.
